Description
This attractive Art Deco Blue Lapis Lazuli and central diamond stickpin was made when men wore jewel to decorated their clothing. Years ago, like prior the late 1960's women wore hats a lot. Often these hats were tiny and women would pin them to their coiffured hair with straight pins or lapel pins like this one. Many men also wore lapel pins on their collar. Approximately 3 Long I made no attempt to remove the patina for it tells how old the pin really is. Classic **stickpin (also called a cravat pin or lapel pin)** dating from the **1920s–1930s**, although the design was popular from the late Victorian era through the Art Deco period. Here's what stands out: * **Center stone:** The dark blue circular inlay is consistent with **lapis lazuli**, a prized gemstone known for its deep royal-blue color. It's a polished disk rather than faceted or cabochon. * **Accent stone:** The small clear stone in the center is a ** 1Kt diamond** * **Metal:** The bezel set and pin is yellow gold in color. It doesn't respond to a magnet. From its age it's not uncommon for jewelry to be unsigned or marked. Solid gold is very rare. And very heavy. The underlying silver tells me it's silver plated gold. * ** The patina consists of a 100-150 year piece of gold jewelry. * **Design:** The simple round lapis disk with a centered stone is very much in keeping with **Art Deco** aesthetics—clean geometry with strong color contrast. Necklace not included. It's a prop piece.
