Studio Pottery Serving Plate Signed Iris Floral Green Rust Handcrafted Art
unknown
Handcrafted studio pottery serving plate with a spout and handle, green speckled glaze on top, rust red on bottom, painted iris in cobalt blue and rust brown across the well. Artist-signed on the underside. A real piece from the American craft studio pottery movement, the period from the 1970s onward when trained ceramicists set up rural studios and sold through craft fairs and juried guild shops. The pour spout and shaped side handle mark it as a hand-thrown serving piece. The glaze is what got me, a speckled sage green half-dipped over unglazed terracotta, with a loose brushed iris in cobalt and rust across the well. Wood ash or shino influence in the speckle. Signed by the artist on the base. Details: Type: Handmade studio pottery serving plate Design: Painted iris, green and rust glaze Condition: Excellent Size: 12 inch diameter
