Vesuvius and the last place in the world where the Renaissance art of Intarsia is still practiced. Intarsia is the painstaking method of wood inlay invented in 15th Century. Intarsia remains a cottage industry in Sorrento, carried on in 56 tiny workshops, Hardwoods trom Brazil, Italy, India and Indonesia are used and are of the finest grains, colors and textures that can be found. Each Sorrento music box passes through 16 steps, crafted with hand tools that haven't changed significantly since the Renaissance. Each floral pattern is cut from ornamental woods, then dozens of tiny pieces are inlaid by hand - no painting, no decals! Three Layers of rich laquer are hand rubbed to fire a glow deep within and it wil be then lined with English velvet.
