The metalwork is a two-tone design of bright gold-tone frame paired with a cross-hatched, matte scratch-textured silver-tone center, which is known by Merle Norman as a Florentine finish. The mixed-metal (silver and gold) look was highly fashionable in the 1950s to add dimension and mimic expensive ornate Italian goldsmithing.
