Victorian French Jet Crepe Stone Black Glass Mourning Cufflinks Patent Dec 1883

These Antique Crepe Stone Square Mourning Cufflinks are a practical and elegant accessory, featuring a patented design from December 1883.  In great condition with some nibbles on the reverse, as can be expected from jewelry over 125 years old. A wonderful, wearable piece of history! From a pet-free and smoke-free home.  French Jet and Crepe Stone are molded black glass, and not truly jet at all. There was not enough natural jet available to meet the demands of 19th-century fashion, so French jet was produced in the late Victorian era as an alternative to hand-carved Whitby jet.
