Description
This is a specimen of a pair of Small-winged Emerald Dragonflies collected in 2023.
This species has the most limited distribution within the *Aeshna* genus. As its Japanese name suggests, its wings are relatively small, but when alive, the non-metallic parts turn sky blue, giving it a very different appearance.
I was surprised by the difference, as immature individuals are orange.
