Mimosa is a plant belonging to the Acacia genus of the legume family, native to southeastern Australia. When fully grown, it can reach heights of 5 to 10 meters and produces small, clustered yellow flowers from March to April. Its beautiful silvery-green foliage can be enjoyed throughout the year.
While widely used as a garden tree, it is also popular as a cut flower. In Italy, there is a custom on March 8th, Women's Day, for men to give mimosa flowers to women they are close to.

Planting
As mimosa grows very tall, it is better suited for planting directly in the ground rather than in pots or planters. The best time to plant is from April to September. Purchase a commercially available seedling and plant it. Transplanting after planting is difficult, so it is recommended to carefully consider the planting location before deciding.
Growing Location
Mimosa loves sunlight. Insufficient sunlight can make it difficult for flowers to bloom, so choose a sunny spot when planting. Strong winds can break branches, so try to select a location that is as sheltered from the wind as possible.

Fertilizer
Mimosa, being a legume, has bacteria in its roots that absorb nitrogen. Therefore, fertilizer containing nitrogen is not necessary. Fertilizer is generally needed after flowering. Once the flowers have finished blooming, apply Plantia Fertilizer for Flowers, Vegetables, and Fruits, which provides fertilizer effects for 3-4 months.

Pruning and Shaping
Mimosa grows vigorously and can exceed 5 meters in height. To maintain its shape, prune back overgrown branches after flowering and thin out crowded branches. Also, mimosa branches are thin and can break in the wind if they grow too long. For these reasons, pruning after flowering is very important.

Pruning should be completed by July at the latest. Flower buds for the following year begin to form from August onwards. Pruning after flower buds have formed will make it difficult for flowers to bloom the following year.
