? Immediate purchase welcome ? Immediate shipping ? Purchased at Mitsukoshi ?
Tsugaru-nuri tea caddy and tea scoop (lacquer on the back), a traditional craft from Aomori Prefecture.
These were owned by my grandmother, who was a tea ceremony teacher, and are a tea caddy and tea scoop from over 30 years ago.
Tsugaru-nuri is a general term for traditional lacquerware from the Tsugaru region of Aomori Prefecture (mainly Hirosaki City), passed down for over 300 years. It uses the togidashi kawarinuri (polished-out decorative coating) technique, where lacquer is applied and polished many times to reveal patterns. It is a nationally designated traditional craft, and its production techniques are designated as Important Intangible Cultural Properties.
