This is a Rantai-shikki (basket-base lacquerware) coaster. It is a traditional craft from Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, made by applying and polishing layers of lacquer over a base woven from bamboo. It is characterized by being lightweight and durable, and it is a bamboo tea coaster.
There are slight differences in the bamboo weave patterns, giving it a unique charm.
This tea coaster seems useful for summer.
