Azuma Five-Needle Pine Bonsai

This Azuma Five-Needle Pine is native to the Azuma mountain range in Bandai-Asahi National Park, with its most distinctive feature being its elevated root system. The Five-Needle Pine that grows in such harsh natural conditions, where the weight of snow crushes its form and wind and rain expose its roots, is found only in the Azuma Five-Needle Pines of Fukushima City. It is said that the model for bonsai can be found in Mount Azuma.

Also known as Fukushima Five-Needle Pine, it is one of Japan's three great Five-Needle Pines, popular as a bonsai for its frosted needles and flexible branches.

A Lucky Tree: The Five-Needle Pine is considered a lucky tree, with its name sounding like go-you matsu (waiting for business/orders). This is interpreted as a wish for good business to come your way. As an evergreen that keeps its green needles through winter, it is also a symbol of eternal youth and longevity, and is used as a garden tree.
