【Set of 5】 Homuhira (Ponpira) Stone, Natural Stone, Suiseki, Bonsai, Viewing Stone, with Stand
Hompeira (Ponpira) stones are ornamental viewing stones and famous stones collected around Nakagawa Town, Hokkaido. The name Ponpira comes from the Ainu language, meaning small cliff. These stones are characterized by their deeply grooved cliffs and tunnel-like formations, reminiscent of karst topography like Cappadocia, and are cherished as viewing stones for enjoying natural scenery.
The unique texture of these stones, which seems to condense natural terrain, is highly regarded by stone enthusiasts as a famous stone.
Nakagawa Town is also famous for its fossils, with discoveries of ammonites and plesiosaurs.
My grandparents carefully preserved this stone as a viewing stone, with water in the base and moss growing on it. The remaining moss is a remnant of that time; it is now dried but has been left as is.
The shapes and sizes vary, with some resembling strata patterns, others like cliff faces, and some shaped like bird feathers.
