This is a unique cactus, the only one among cacti that lacks a cuticle layer (a waxy outer shell that protects the plant).
The seeds are tiny and grow extremely slowly, so patience is required for germination.
If you graft seedlings early after germination (though they will swell more than their natural appearance), they can be maintained relatively easily.

Sowing Precautions

- The main soil varies from general seed-starting mix to specialized mixes. It's quite tolerant of soil as long as it's well-draining and doesn't mold. For good drainage, mixing seed-starting mix with fine Akadama or Kanuma soil is recommended.
- It's susceptible to mold, so covering the surface with inorganic soil (fine Akadama is the easiest) is advisable.
- For the same reason, a fungicide makes things easier.
- The roots are weak, so after germination, it's best to stop bottom watering and water from the bottom to prevent drying out.
- Germination rates vary widely. If germination is slow, sometimes drying them out, exposing them to cold/heat, or rain can trigger germination.

Regarding Sowing
- Upon arrival, seeds are stored in the refrigerator with desiccant.
- Seeds are sourced from overseas cactus suppliers through proper channels (Phyto, and CITES if necessary) and have undergone customs inspection.
- Unlike vegetables and flowers, there is no strict quality control, so germination rates vary from high to low.
- Germination rates also change significantly depending on the environment, soil, and sowing timing (temperature, etc.), so it's not suitable for those who are impatient or easily stressed by lack of germination.
