5 Oyakame Seedlings
Okawakame is a perennial vine native to tropical America or tropical Asia, and was introduced to Japan from China as a medicinal herb for longevity. It is also called Yunnan Baiyao and is a highly nutritious vegetable rich in folic acid, minerals, and vitamin A.
It is easy to grow with few pests and is a savior during the hot summer months when leafy vegetables are scarce. If you let the vines climb in a sunny spot, they will produce dark green leaves one after another. Even if the vines break during shipping, new shoots will continue to grow.
It has a mild, slightly slimy texture.
It can be used in miso soup, stir-fries, tempura, blanched dishes, shabu-shabu, etc. If you get tubers (mukago), they can be steamed, stir-fried, deep-fried, or made into mukago rice.
The seedlings in the photo will be carefully removed with as much soil as possible, wrapped in kitchen paper to retain moisture, and shipped.
