The Fragrant Sweet Olive (Nioi Banmatsuri) changes color from purple to white as it blooms, and has a refreshing jasmine-like fragrance. When in full bloom, the plant is covered with flowers and is commonly sold as a potted plant. In regions where frost is not severe, it can overwinter outdoors.

Cultivation Environment
Place in a location that receives plenty of sunlight from autumn to spring, and avoid strong sunlight in summer by placing it in partial shade.
If planting in the garden, a moist location is suitable. Planting in a spot protected from the north wind increases the likelihood of overwintering outdoors.
Watering
Water when the surface of the potting soil has dried out. It dislikes dryness, so water daily during sunny and very dry days from July to September. It also absorbs a lot of water when in full bloom, so be careful to prevent it from drying out.
If planted in the garden, water when it hasn't rained and the soil is dry.
Fertilizer
Apply a slow-release chemical fertilizer at the recommended dosage as a top dressing during the growing season from spring to autumn.
Diseases and Pests
Be aware of the possibility of scale insects.
Soil (for potted plants)
Well-draining soil is suitable.
(Example: A mixed soil of 7 parts Akadama soil (small grain) and 3 parts compost, etc.)

Repot approximately once every 1 to 2 years in spring.
