Sonobe Meiboku Bowl Small Sakura Lacquerware Natural Wood

Cupped in the palm of your hand

I once read in a book, The vessels in your cupboard represent your dining table.

Dishes are the supporting actors that enhance delicious food. While they are supporting actors, they are also important. Regardless of how well the food is prepared, dishes sometimes have the power to change the appearance of the food itself.

This bowl with its plump silhouette is the Meiboku Bowl Sakura from SONOBE. It is a simple design that allows you to feel the natural warmth of the wood. It received the Good Design Award in 1996.

Made with carefully selected domestic wood
The Meiboku Bowl Sakura is a masterpiece, meticulously carved one by one by artisans from carefully selected domestic wood. The material used is cherry wood, beloved by the Japanese people. The fine grain, lustrous, and hard, durable cherry wood has been transformed by the artisans' skilled hands into a bowl with a smooth touch. When you hold the bowl with its gentle curves, it fits perfectly in your hand. The rim is neither too thick nor too thin, just the right thickness. If it's difficult to use, it becomes stressful, but the comfort of use is outstanding.
The surface is finished with a transparent urethane coating, so it can handle oily foods without any problem. It also drains water very well, making it easy to wash and dry, which is a pleasing feature. The bowl was chosen for the Good Design award not only for its design but also for its excellent usability.

Since this Meiboku Bowl Sakura is made of natural wood, the color, grain, and texture will vary from one piece to another depending on the part of the wood used during production. This is one of the charms created by nature and proof that it is your own, one-of-a-kind item in the world. We hope you will enjoy its unique texture, understanding that each piece of wood has its own individuality.

New and unused. Never removed from the box.
