Butterfly Stool Sori Yanagi Chair Stool Furniture Seat Butterfly D Brown

Butterfly Stool
The Butterfly Stool, with its beautiful form achieved through bent plywood techniques, depicts gentle curves like a butterfly spreading its wings. This is the result of a remarkable fusion of ancient Japanese aesthetics and Western materials. Its symmetry allows for the joints to flow seamlessly and elegantly. Sori Yanagi was an industrial designer who was instrumental in supporting modern Japanese design from the post-war reconstruction period of the 1950s-60s through the era of high economic growth. Sori Yanagi's designs embody the beauty of utility, which he advocated for, characterized by a heartwarming appeal within simple and pure forms. He was a leading figure in the Japanese design world, consistently advocating that beauty is for the people. He also served as an assistant to Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier's partner, during her visit to Japan. His famous Butterfly Stool is permanently preserved in many museums. He designed not only furniture but also a wide range of items, including the torch holder for the Tokyo Olympics torch relay and stadium seating, as well as automobiles, highways, and bridges.
