Feature 13: Architecture and Cities Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic
The biggest highlight of 2020 was supposed to be the Tokyo Olympics. In the world of architecture, discussions had long been underway regarding the Olympic-related facilities being constructed one after another, and the changes expected in the construction industry after the Olympics.
However, the Tokyo Olympics were sidelined due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection, and the world changed completely.
The spread of the novel coronavirus was also an issue for architecture and cities. Our lives were inevitably changed from the ground up, and the way architecture and cities are used became completely different from before. This came to be called the new normal.
We are still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, in the midst of some wave of infection, in a vortex of confusion. No one knows how long the current with Corona situation will last, and even if it ends, it is predicted to be a world different from the past, called after Corona. Our lives, as well as architecture and cities, are truly at a historical turning point.
