Zen-On締太鼓 N-11 Rope-Tied Plywood Cowhide Japanese Drum Japanese Instrument Zen-On

US Size:

The締太鼓 (Shimedai-ko) gets its name from the process of stretching and sewing the hide onto a metal ring, then sandwiching it between the body and tightening it with ropes or bolts.
Compared to other drums, it has a higher pitch, making it play a crucial role in keeping the rhythm in ensemble drumming (Kumi-daiko).
It is a standard drum used in festivals, festival music (Matsuri-bayashi), and ensemble drumming, and is also used in classes for experiencing traditional Japanese instruments.

It is characterized by its high, piercing sound. The hide is made of genuine cowhide.
The Namitsuke (並附) is the standard type of Shimedai-ko, is lightweight, and easy to handle, making it suitable for beginners.
The drums are called Namitsuke, Nichokake (二丁掛), Sancho-kake (三丁掛), Yoncho-kake (四丁掛), and Gocho-kake (五丁掛) depending on the thickness of the drumhead. As the number increases, the hide becomes thicker and the sound quality becomes harder.
