Hakone-en Aquarium is located 723 meters above sea level, making it the highest aquarium in Japan. The facility is divided into three main areas. The first is the Baikal Seal Plaza, where you can see Baikal seals, a rare freshwater species with large bodies and big, round eyes. The second is the Saltwater Pavilion, featuring a large tank holding 1,255 tons of seawater and 7 meters in height, home to marine life. The third is the Freshwater Pavilion, which gathers creatures from rivers and lakes worldwide, including exotic fish from the Amazon River basin and rare fish found in caves. Among these, the Underwater Show in the Saltwater Pavilion is a popular attraction. When divers begin feeding, fish swarm the area, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Another reason for Hakone-en Aquarium's popularity is the charming performance by the Baikal seals, who seem to enjoy their hot spring.
