Bali Balaganjur Cymbals / Ceng-ceng

US Size:

Ceng-ceng cymbals, played at high speed in the Balaganjur style of gamelan, where young people march and play in Bali.

I purchased this at a musical instrument shop frequented by the Kundang player of the Balinese gamelan group Semarandana in Ubud village during my stay in Bali, while I was studying under him.

It has been stored without ever being used, so there is no rust or signs of wear.

It is designed to be held between the fingers, and by changing the way it is struck, the tone can be varied. This is a high-quality instrument played at high speed during Balinese Odalan (festivals).

It is very thick and has a substantial weight, yet is small. Its playing style is fundamentally different from Western hand cymbals, which produce a long sustain with a Jaan sound.

The playing method may be similar to Japanese Chappa. However, the thickness and weight of the ceng-ceng are greater, and the tone is heavier and deeper.

How about adding this as a new variation for Chappa players or multi-percussionists?

I am also selling drumsticks specifically for Balinese double-headed Kundang drums.

The cassette tape shown in the photo is not included.
