Dancing Umbrella Tottori Shan Shan Festival Japanese Umbrella With Bells Stage Prop Interior
Purchased 4-5 years ago and used for one season (about 2 months), then stored indoors.
There are slight scuffs on the details, some bending on the strips, and the Japanese paper is wrinkled, discolored, and yellowed (with stains), but considering that, the frame condition is problem-free and very good.
This is a Shanshan Umbrella used in the Tottori Shanshan Festival.
Size:
Umbrella diameter: approx. 80cm
Length: approx. 120cm
Please note that these are amateur measurements and may contain slight errors.
[Based on the umbrella used in the traditional performing art Inaba no Kasa Odori (Inaba Umbrella Dance), which has been passed down in eastern Tottori Prefecture for a long time.
Japanese paper is stretched over a bamboo frame, painted red and blue, and decorated with gold and silver strips.
The umbrella has bells attached, and the characteristic shanshan sound is made during the dance.
Originally, it is said to have originated from a flower umbrella used in a rain prayer dance during a drought in the Edo period.]
