[Description of the Jingu Bugaku Ranryo-o (written on paper)]
There is a piece called Ranryo-o in Jingu Bugaku.
It is a very auspicious piece commonly called Ryoo, and has been performed frequently at celebrations and festivals since ancient times.
In ancient China (modern-day China), there was a king named Ranryo-o Chokyo, who was known for his intelligence and bravery. Because of his handsome appearance, he always wore this fearsome mask in battle and achieved victory. This dance is said to originate from the story of the king's valiant and active appearance at the forefront of the army.
This mask is used in the costumes of the dancers at that time, and it has a dragon head on top and a fearsome face with a prominent nose.
Furthermore, while Noh masks are realistic, Bugaku masks are characterized by being quite symbolic. Their size is intermediate between the large Gigaku masks and the small Noh masks.
