Biosphere 2 was a groundbreaking scientific experiment built in Arizona in the early 1990s to study how humans could live inside a completely sealed, self-sustaining environment. It contained miniature versions of Earth's ecosystems—including a rainforest, ocean, desert, and farmland—and was designed to test life-support systems for future space missions and long-term human survival beyond Earth. Today, Biosphere 2 is recognized as one of the most ambitious environmental science projects ever attempted and is operated as a major research and education center.
