Description
This is an authentic, vintage official United States Navy photograph from February 24-25, 1956. The image captures members of Congress during a two-day inspection tour aboard the USS Nautilus (SSN-571), the world's first operational nuclear-powered submarine. The photo shows several individuals on what appears to be a tender or small boat, likely en route to or from the submarine. The reverse side of the photograph features an official U.S. Navy stamp and detailed text, identifying the event and some of the individuals present: 'FRONT ROW, L TO R: BRAY, AND UNIDENTIFIED MAN. SECOND ROW, L TO R: ANDREWS, JOHNSON, DUCANDER.' This is a significant piece of naval history, documenting an early visit to a groundbreaking vessel.
