Antique French Rare Mirecourt Bobbin Lace Floral Oval Linen Doily

A rare antique piece from northeastern France.
Handmade Millefleur bobbin lace
Slightly oval round doily made of linen.

The floral lace on the border resembles Bruges Duchesse lace,
but with a sturdier, thicker cord used for the outline,
giving the motifs a clear, distinct, and raised three-dimensional effect.

Five pairs of flowers, resembling violets or primroses, face each other.
Star-shaped flowers ✴ bridge across,
and lattice work ▦ is woven crosswise within the stems.

The medium-weight fabric is ecru.
The lace threads are green and a muted grayish...
a chic, antique stone off-white with a plaster-like nuance.

Material is likely natural linen,
or a linen-cotton blend.

It has a crispness and body, with a smooth, flowing texture.
It is firm with moderate stiffness,
suggesting good durability and longevity.
