Description
Up for sale is a rare, highly collectible first-edition Portmeirion Birds of Britain 5.5-inch fruit/cereal bowl featuring the stunning Kingfisher (Alcedo Atthis) motif. Originally launched in 1978 by iconic British ceramicist Susan Williams-Ellis, this naturalistic collection beautifully adapts historical 18th-century ornithological plates from naturalist Edward Donovan's 1794 masterwork. This specific piece features the coveted original first-edition green underglaze ID Backstamp on the base. The stamp includes full historical attribution to E. Donovan 1794, Susan Williams-Ellis 1978, and guarantees production at the historic Stoke-on-Trent factory in England. The advanced high-temperature Inglaze Decoration technique embeds the artwork beneath the protective glaze coat, ensuring the vibrant greens, blues, and teals of the kingfisher design resist fading over time. Clean, glossy glaze finish with excellent color preservation. Free from chips, cracks, or heavy usage wear.
