Thank you for viewing.
This is an ink and wash painting by Katsura Kinouchi (1892-1977), a representative figure of modern Japanese sculpture. It was purchased at auction.

[About the Artist]

Katsura Kinouchi was born in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1892. He entered the field of sculpture at the age of 20 and studied under Fumio Asakura.
In 1921, he traveled to England and then to Paris, where he studied under Bourdelle. While interacting with Tsuguharu Foujita, Ichiro Fukuzawa, and others, he continued his research, introducing the spirit of Archaic Greek sculpture and terracotta techniques to Japan.
He is known as a master who left a significant mark on the post-war Japanese sculpture world.

[About the Artwork]

This piece depicts a nude female figure, a representative motif of Katsura Kinouchi, rendered with varying shades of ink and bold brushstrokes.
The beauty of relaxed forms and generous female figures, common in his sculptures, is expressed through simple ink lines.
His unique red seal (signature) is stamped on the lower right, and a commentary sticker from St. Paul's Gallery is attached to the back. You can add this piece to your collection with confidence.
