Description
A leading court painter of China's Southern Song Dynasty, he is counted among the Four Masters of the Southern Song.
His distinctive style, known as Half Summer, features a composition with half the screen boldly left as empty space. This tranquil and profound worldview greatly influenced Japanese ink wash painting (e.g., Sesshu).
This work also clearly expresses his style through its spatial composition utilizing empty space and the powerful brushwork depicting landscapes.
